I'm loving this WiFi!

Tue Jul 28, 2009, 5:33 PM
Today I discovered just what I can do with broadband internet. Like run through the backlog of over 1k messages and submissions without actually missing anything!

Yeah... I've still got dialup at home, but one of my local Dunkin Donuts has genuinely free, no strings attached Wi-Fi. 1MB/s vs. 5.6KB/s. Woweeeee!

So, fear not! Your submissions are not going unnoticed, though I have little time to comment. ^.^

Still Alive

Sat May 9, 2009, 6:31 AM
Well, I'm still alive. Just not here, it seems. Too many time-outs, too little time to put up with the aggravation.

But, I'm still on storm: [link] and still moderating the galleries there. Much more fun than dA, to be honest. I don't get lost in the crowd (well, I don't think I would, being an admin and all, but even if I weren't, I still wouldn't get lost).

Anyhow, that's all from me here. If anyone wants to get in touch with me, feel free to do so through sa.n. ^.^

v6 ... Blech!

Mon Jul 14, 2008, 1:53 PM
Wow... I seriously wish I could get paid for the sort of visual "blech" that is dA v6. The interface was overly complicated and extremely difficult for new users to navigate in v5. I don't see where any of that was even touched, let alone corrected.

And, to top it off, I'm getting a 65% time-out rate when loading art and user pages... yet another drop in performance from v5, when I got only a 45% time-out rate. In fact, most people I know who use dA hare getting an seriously unacceptable minimum 30% time-out rate from dA, irrespective of world location. Obviously, nothing has been done to fix that either.

So, just like v5, v6 is little more than the addition of fluff (and an ugly color) with no effort to rectify the site's glaring flaws in performance and user friendliness.

Ah well. I guess I can't expect too much from this place. So, instead of gaining some renewed interest in dA, I am left with a renewed sense of dA being a waste of my time. So, I shall now go back whence I came, to a place where I can genuinely make a difference.

Been a long time...

Been a long time...

Well, it's been a long time since I've updated my journal here. I've been rather busy, most recently making efforts to actually look at the 150+ images which accumulated in my message center over the past few weeks.

There's not much for me to say here, as usual. Most of my spare time is devoted to other tasks and places. I've even been rather lax in my efforts to develop my equation art skills these days. Still, I'm managing to at least keep track of most of the stuff that shows up in my message center here, even if I don't seem to have the energy to comment on much.

Jeez... it seems like I'm always saying the same thing over and over in my journals. I guess that's because my relationship to dA hasn't changed and probably never will change. Oh well. That's just life I suppose.

Well, I'd better stop now, before I babble so much that your ears fall off.

The obligatory and totally good sa.n part... as usual :D

storm-artists.net... be there.

Mirrin!!! Why don't you comment any more!?!

Mirrin!!! Why don't you comment any more!?!

Yes, I know. It seems like I don't comment on anything here anymore. ;_;

To be perfectly honest, it's really got nothing to do with dA in and of itself. I have a bad case of internet information overload. To much to do every day... too many people to keep track of... something has to give and that something is the large amounts of time I used to put into commenting on tons of stuff that came my way.

Ok, well perhaps it does have a little something to do with dA. Not having thumbnails in the message center is a serious impediment to my ability to comment since I can't preview things to see what I'd like to comment on. I'm on 56k dailup and I just can't load everything that shows up in my message center. Nobody else I deal with charges money for thumbnails in their message center so the lion's share of my attention naturally gets drawn into other realms. Sad, but just a fact of life around here I guess.

It also doesn't help that dA is one of the slowest loading sites I ever routinely visit right now. Not only is loading slow, but more than a third of page load attempts time-out, which is frustrating beyond belief.

I do honestly try to at least have a look at some of the wonderful art that comes my way. Time, however, invariably conspires against me when it comes to comments. I still appreciate every one of my watchers and I still love the artwork of everyone I watch. :)

I am going to make an effort to find some more time to comment on at least some of the beautiful work that shows up in my message center on a daily basis. I may have to reduce myself to taking a random selection from the sum total, but that's better than nothing at all. :)

Reworking the purpose of my devaintArt gallery...

Time constraints have also affected the use of my deaviantArt galley. While I don't think it's particularly right for a semi-active amateur artist like me to have a totally empty gallery here, I just can't post everything I create here.

From now on, my gallery here will simply have a sampling of my work. Equation art will be the focus, though due to the issues I have with dA speed, I will have to keep to smaller sized renders (thank goodness EA scales so nicely). As always, I encourage any mathematically minded folks to have a look at EACoder, a web-application created by Patty (former dA member and now on the coding team at storm-artists.net) that allows you program Equation Art and get the result as a .png image.

As for me, my primary place of internet residence will remain storm-artists.net where I serve as the head of gallery moderation and also dabble in community relations, site theme design and other things as needed. My page there is mirrin.storm-artists.net and my gallery there has a full collection of my equation art, fractal art, emoticons, etc.

Well, I shall take up your time no longer.

Until next we encounter one another in the vast, greenish-gray wilderness of dA,
